Religion

6th Grade Old Testament...We have studied the call of Abraham and will continue with the stories of Isaac and Rebecca, Esau and Jacob, and selling of Joseph into slavery.  We will eventually study and discuss Moses and his interactions with the Egyptians and the Pharaoh, the exodus and the arrival of the Hebrews in the Promised land.

7th Grade New Testament...Students are continuing to discuss the authorship of the bible with our focus now being on the four gospels.  We have studied and analyzed the similarities and diferences between the synoptic gospels and learned the significance of the symbols that represent each gospel.  We will begin the study of the infancy narratives in Matthew and Luke and do some comparison studies, followed by an analysis of the human and divine person of Jesus.

Church History...Students have just finished studying the Dark Ages, the Crusades and briefly touched on the Inquistition.  We will begin the Late Middle Ages, where we will spend time talking about the effects of the plague on the spiritual lives of the people as well as the economic effects on Europe as a whole.  During this time students will discover too, that the Church itself was in turmoil with Avignon Papacy.

Welcome to Jr. High History!

In 6th grade Geography we will be working on salt dough relief maps of the  continent of Africa. The students must put in the countries, rivers, mountains and so on.   As we work on these, we will also look at the many cultures and languages of Africa. Perhaps even sample some Ethiopian food! The 7th grade American History class will be studying the Gilded Age in the U.S. We will also be looking at architecture styles and touring the Heritage Hill district. The students will wrap up the unit with a test and design their own home using the architectual styles.  The 8th grade American History class is wrapping up the 1960s and will be moving into the early 70's. We will discuss the energy crisis, the Bicenntenial, and the Pres. Sixth Grade Language Arts:

The Sixth Graders are finishing up reading Bridge to Terabithia for Literature. In English they are completing Unit 1 and will be taking a test the week of October 15th. After evaluaing the students’ progress and the need for Phonics, I have decided to eliminate the Vocaulary until January. They will be receiving vocabulary words in their Math, Science, Literature, and Science classes on a regular basis. Phonics will now be taught every week with a spelling test on every Friday. Look for your student’s words on Monday.

Seventh Grade Language Arts:

Seventh Graders just recently finished reading the teleplay Brian’s Song, and are now starting the novel The Secret Garden in Literature. Just as a reminder students' have a vocabulary or spelling test every Friday.

Eight Grade Language Arts:

We have just finished reading the novel The Outsiders. We will be working on some fun projects for the next two weeks. More details to come soon. In English students' recently had a test on "The Sentence" and are now starting a new unit on "Nouns". Just as a reminder students' have a vocabulary or spelling test every Friday.

God Bless!
